Superbowl Carrots

In this article i found its talks about what the top ten foods eaten at past Sundays Superbowl. surprisingly it wasn't pizza, chicken wings, or beer. Vegetables was the food of choice for this years big game. People have gone years with the same old party food, but now more and more people are worrying about their health. In the survey taken chicken was #7 and pizza was #9. I feel like people have changed there ways because with all these trends and new nutritional ways of eating are becoming more wide spread. People are caring more about what they look like and are looking at the facts of what is healthy and what isn't. I liked this article because it really surprised me that people steered away from junk food on the biggest sports holiday of the year. I don't care how health conscious you are its Superbowl Sunday its meant for wings, pizza, and beer. Binge for one day its not going to hurt.

  1. The superbowl is as American as wings, beer, and apple pie. This venue draws a crowd of men and women, young and old, and caucasian to african american. Who would of guessed that with this wide array of people, the number one choice for sport fans enjoying the game is vegetables. In this high obesity rate country, eating vegetables is suprising. I would of guessed wings, steak, and pizza but this is not the case. Vegetables, according to Daily New's writer Rosemary Black, is the most commonly eaten food during this game.

It makes sense to me because with the price of protiens, carbs like french fries and alcohol soring through the roof, vegetables are moderately priced. Most people like to nibble on little peices of food constantly throughout the game and a vegetable tray with dip is less messy than the greese associated with wings and pizza. Plus its healthy too which people wont feel bad if they consume them.

  2. In the movement to become healthier, consumers have started to get vegetables when at the stadium watching football. Believe it or not the most popular food in the past three championships was not a fatty dish but a healthy one, such as vegetables and dip. Though vegetables were number one on the list for most popular foods served at these games there potatoe products were still at number two and soft drinks at number three.
This article surprised me at the fact that vegetables were the top choice of food to buy at concessions during football games. Though it did not surprise me that potatoes and soft drinks were the next two on the list, but it does show that people are trying to get healthier.

  3. When I think of the Superbowl or any other major sporting event my mind directly goes towards food. I think pizza, hotdogs, popcorn, cottoncandy, and beer, all of which are staples at any sporting event. I find it very hard to believe that vegetables are the most consumers item on SuperBowl Sunday.

If this is what research is finding to be a trend for sport fans eating habits then I believe sports bars and even stadiums need to change there approach. Although sports stadiums are still serving the classics, I have seen a shift in the variety of foods they are offering. Currently, I work at the Dunkin Donuts Center and more often I see adults walking around with salads and wraps rather than hotdogs and french fries. I also know that at Yankee Stadium there are a wider variety of foods and beverages reflecting different cultures and food trends being served throughout the stadium.

Maybe this survey/trend list does have some truths to it. Maybe in the future we will be more fast food restaurant like Domino's promote vegetable platters on Super Bowl Sunday rather then wings and pizza. Who knows, I still believe that sporting events are a time to splurge and consumer the foods we all wish we could eat on a daily bases. It will be interesting to see how far this trend actual goes.
