Over the past few years we have seen a movement towards value meals in quick service estblishments of all types. When Mcdonald's first started offering the Snack Wrap they had limited menu for customers to order from. Today, they offer a number of different options which appeal to consumers of all types. Along with being a great value at $1.49 a piece, Snack Wraps can be one of McDonald's healthier menu items if ordered with grilled chicken and no sauce. Like Mcdonald's a number of other fast food and causal dining quick service restaurants have started to promote value menu's. Recently fast restaurants such as Burger King and Wendy's have increased their value menus adding new menu items or reducing the cost of existing items. With today's economic crisis quick service restaurants like the rest of the industry are trying to attract customers and keep them coming back. By introducing new products specialize to a regional area, or hosting special events like this McDonald's is it is an excellent way to attract new customers and bring back old ones.
Fast Food restaurant are not the only form of quick service restaurant who are taking part in the value menu trend. Restaurants such as Apple Bees(http://www.applebees.com/2for20.aspx) and Friday's are offering deals as well. They are trying to attract customers by giving them more for their money.
I believe that in the up coming months we will be seeing more and more ads offering value menus to attract customers. I also believe like McDonald's many other quick service restaurants will be creating custom items based on local and regional preferences.
Many quick-service restaurants are aimed towards the satisfaction of consumers. People do not want to pay a lot of money for a burger, fries, and a drink, McDonalds and other fast food restaurants have solved this issue. McDonalds had originally come out with the snack wraps that only cost $1.49 a piece, saving the consumer the money that they do not want to pay and solving the issue of what to get at a low price. Now McDonalds has come out with the Big Mac snack wrap, with all of the same ingredients as the original, but in wrap form. Snack wraps and other value menu items were added to menus to help bring in money and with the declining economy this was the best way possible.
I enjoyed this article because it showed how quick service has become very savii when it comes to bringing money in during a recession.
I like the fact that McDonald's, being a giant conglomerate as it is, took the snack wrap to a different level. I feel that this would go well because people are used to the classic Big Mac, and the classic menu at mcdonalds. During the current recession, it is a cheaper alternative to a classic staple of the franchise.
I liked this article because it showed how even large companies are looking out for everyone who is struggling in this recession. Also, it allowed us to see how they can re-invent old classics to make it more affordable for everyone.
