I found a very interesting article about how one of the current trends are that most restaurants, especially the quick service restaurants, are gearing more towards consumerism than other years. Other trends mentioned are that the consumers are more concerned with herbal supplements the growing use of functional or convenient foods. People are moving more towards going out to eat rather than staying in and cooking a meal and most times then not they will go to a fast food restaurant, which leads towards something mentioned in this article called "McDonaldization". With the rapid growth of people eating out, the number of people in the age group 18-34 has declined when it comes to a sitdown restaurant. All of the statistics leads to the growing epidemic of obesity in the united states, which is another trend, the concern for the health and happiness of the consumers of america. Another trend is the growth of the ethnic fast food restaurants, people may go to taco bell instead of going to McDonalds or Wendys.
This article has given me the chance to think of ways that maybe we could fix how we go about the nutrition in fast food restaurants. One solution may be to bring in healthier choices, for example have the meat patties at Burger King or McDonalds be a lower fat percentage.

This article talks about a number of trends which are occuring in the current market in both the United States and in other countries. One of the biggest trends which the article talks about is the dramatic increase in the number of consumers whom are now eating out. Over the past ten years the restaurant industry has seen the number of guests dining out steadily increase. This statistic holds the most weight in the fast food, cafe, and street vendor segements. Along with their increased popularity within the States fast food restaurants such as McDonald's has seen increased interest in countries around the world.
ReplyDeleteAnother trend which was addressed in the article is that of the speciality diet trend. Due to the obesity crisis taking over in America, many restaurants are trying to improve their menus by adding healthy choices.Recently many quick service restaurants such as Apple Bees and Friday's have added healthier options to their menu, some of the items on the menu even conform to the specifics of certain diet trends like weight watchers. Although with quick service restaurants, fast food restaurants have also changed their menus to accomidate the needs of these customers. Just last week I began see commercials for Taco Bells new menu which is said to help you lose weight.
Some other trends mentioned in the article also included an increased interest in convience foods, orgainic foods, and ethnic cuisines. Although all of these trends are significant, I believe the healthy menu trend is one which will have the most impact on the foodservice industry over the next few months.
This article goes over the ins and outs of the different trends in the food service industry. One trend they talk about are the rising number of people that are going out to eat. This is triggering more fast food chains to increase the number of franchise locations and the cause of obesity. This problem causes more diet trend to spring up and and restaurants will redesign the menu to keep up with the up and coming trend. Another trend is food that is healthy for you that protects you from disease and illness and is more health conscience. Ethnic food largely seen today, more people want to see and experience different foods and cuisines and this trend is taking off.
ReplyDeleteI liked this article because it went over how Americans are taking a liking to new foods and are actually going out and experiencing new ideas with different foods and its culture.
This article talks about current trends among Americans in the country. They include: eating a way from home, obesity and malnutrition, dieting, suppliments, convience foods, tv dinners, functional food and ethnic foods. It then discusses them in detail and their significance in our industry.
ReplyDeleteI feel that all of these trends are present due to a chain reaction first started by ethnic foods. With are own native cuisine usually taking time and care to prepare, it forces people to eat a way from home or purchase tv dinners. Sometimes this causes people to eat convience foods which are not always good for us causing us to become obese or suffer from malnutrition. From here we seek dieting and are required to take suppliments to get our vitiamins for the day. We try to consume functional foods to get are vitamins but at the end of the day we fall back on the pill. So in the end all of these trends are a result from another.
